Updates for Summer 2025
March 20th
Dear J-Rays families:
Last month the Tarheel Swimming Association approved a new rule for our recreational swimmers that specifies swimmers must register and compete based on their gender assigned at birth. This requirement is more stringent than USA Swimming's guidelines for recreational leagues, and directly affects children in the league. Two dozen clubs, including ours, voted against the measure; last night the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Federation of Greater Raleigh voted for our J-Rays team to leave the TSA.
Don't worry - the J-Rays will race! We intend on swimming a competitive season with some modifications and we will be forming a committee to assist with this. Stay tuned for more information. This was not an easy decision, but it is the right decision for our organization, our values and our shared commitment to inclusivity. We are grateful to the J-Rays families, coaches, swimmers and fans – see you at the pool!
Please reach out directly to me with any questions, although right now please understand we do not have all the answers.
With deepest J-Rays love and dedication,
Deb Rosenzweig,
TSA Rep, Federation Board of Directors Member, Fellow Swim Mom
